US Commits 'Whole-of-Government' Aid to Venezuela Following Deadly Earthquakes.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Pledges 'Fast and Effective' Rescue Support After Venezuela Disasters.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that the U.S. is mobilizing a "whole-of-government" response to support Venezuela following two catastrophic earthquakes that have claimed at least 164 lives and injured nearly a thousand others.

Speaking on Thursday, Rubio emphasized that the American deployment will be "big, fast, and effective," focusing heavily on the immediate needs of the crisis-stricken country over the next 48 to 72 hours.

The U.S. State Department is already deploying elite search-and-rescue teams from Fairfax County, Virginia, and Los Angeles to assist on the ground. Rubio noted that helping local authorities dig through hundreds of collapsed buildings to save trapped individuals remains the highest priority.

The twin earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, hit the Latin American country in rapid succession, cutting off electricity and severely damaging telecommunications networks. Because Venezuela's main international airport in Maiquetía has sustained crippling structural damage, Rubio confirmed that the U.S. will deploy logistics assets and provide overhead imagery to help assess destruction in hard-to-reach coastal areas.

The broader international community is also joining the relief mission, with nations like Brazil, France, Mexico, Chile, and Qatar organizing emergency resources alongside the United States to address the unfolding humanitarian crisis.
