A conservative Iranian newspaper has published a provocative list of prominent American, Israeli, and European leaders, identifying them as prime targets for retaliation following the assassination of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The Tehran-based daily, Hamshahri, released an online infographic depicting 13 high-profile foreign figures clad in orange prison uniforms with crosshairs superimposed on their foreheads. The list includes US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, signaling a broad scope of potential retaliation extending beyond those directly involved in military actions.

A Vow of Retaliation

The publication of the graphic coincided with a strongly worded statement from Mojtaba Khamenei, the son and successor of the late Supreme Leader. In his first major public address since his father's funeral, Mojtaba declared that vengeance is a "demand of the nation" and must be carried out.

"These criminals, whose names appear on a list, will take to their graves the wish of a peaceful death in their beds," Mojtaba stated.

While the late Supreme Leader had previously declared that Iran compiled a list of individuals to target, no official names were formally released by the government. Observers note that while the newspaper's infographic represents a hardline domestic stance, there is currently no indication that the specific list published by Hamshahri is an officially endorsed government hit list.

  • United States: President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee.

  • Israel: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, and IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir.

  • Europe: British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

The inclusion of major European heads of state highlights Iran’s escalating rhetoric against Western allies who have supported actions against the Islamic Republic.

Context of the Escalation

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who ruled Iran for nearly 37 years, was killed on February 28, 2026, during a joint US-Israeli military operation in Tehran. The strike initiated a major escalation in the Middle East. Following months of tension, Khamenei was laid to rest earlier this month in his hometown of Mashhad, prompting renewed public vows from conservative factions and the Iranian state media to seek retribution.
